How to hide any file or folder in windows os?
Sometimes we need to keep away our files or folder from prying eyes or perhaps we have some important documents or videos and we want to keep them under wraps or prevent other users from accidentally deleting the files. In this case, windows offer a feature that allows us to make any file or folder invisible. This feature is typically used for program files so that they don't clutter up our computer when we are normally using it, but we can set manually folders to be hidden to prevent others users to access them.
Making a file or folder hidden is an easy way to add some security to our files and it's the good way to clean up some clutter in our file browser. Follow the given steps to hide any file or folder.
File Explorer Configurations.
Before getting start, make sure File explorer is not showing the hidden files. To do this, open File explorer » view » show/hide from top of the window and uncheck the "Hidden items" option.
If your window is not updated, might be you won't have the shortcut to uncheck the option. So, you have to follow different process to gain the option. In this case, open File Explorer » view » options » change folder and search options » view and check the option as shown above in screenshot.
Hide the Folder or File.
Navigate to the location that contains the folder that you want to hide. Right click the folder icon. From the drop-down menu, select properties and the "folder properties" window will appear. Check the box as shown in above screenshot and apply the settings.
On next window, we can decide if we want to hide the folder only or the folder and everything inside it.
□ If we choose the 1st option and hide the folder only. Only folder will be hidden but nothing inside. Then all files belong to hidden folder can easily accessible through search result or Quick access menu.
□ If we choose the 2nd option and hide the folder and all its content then it will be hard for somebody to find the folder or its content.
How to unhide the folder or file again?
In order to view the hidden folder or file and make them visible again, we just need to reverse the step # 1 and step # 2.
① Navigate to the location where the hidden folder located and then open view » show/hide from top of the window and check the "Hidden items" option. (Reverse of Step#1)
② Hidden folder will appear. it will be slightly lighter than normal. Right click on folder and open properties and the "folder properties" window will appear. Uncheck the box as shown in above screenshot and apply the settings. (Reverse of Step#2)
