This is the list of Computer scientists, Programmer, Developer, Inventor, who do work in computer science. Some of the persons are notable as Programmers on the list because they work in research as well as the program. Some of them are an inventor and regarded as computer scientists.



Ada Lovelace

First Computer Programmer.

Augusta Ads King-Noel, Countess of Lovelace Byron, was born on 10 December 1815 in London, England. She was English Mathematician and writer, chiefly known for her work on Charles Babbage’s computer known as Analytical Engine. She was the first to recognize that the machine has applications beyond pure calculation and published the first algorithm intended to be carried out by such a machine. She is the first computer programmer. In 1852 at the age of 36 she died cause of Uterine Cancer.

Co-founder of Microsoft.

William Henry Gates also known as Bill gates was born on 28 October 1955 in Seattle, Washington, is an American entrepreneur, business mogul, investor, Philanthropist, and one of the most influential and richest people in this world worth as estimated $84.2 billion. He is the Principal founder of Microsoft corporation, one of the most recognized brands in the computer industry. He has retired from working full time at Microsoft and has instead concentrated on working with his charitable foundation “The bill and Melinda Gates foundation”.

Brendan Eich

Father of JavaScript Programming Language and co-founder of Mozilla.

Brendan Eich was born on 4 July 1961 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, U.S. He is an American technologist and creator of the JavaScript programming language. He is the CEO of Brave Software and co-founded the Mozilla project (Free software community), the Mozilla foundation (A non-profit organization that exists to support the open source Mozilla project) and the Mozilla Corporation (subsidiary of Mozilla Foundation.

Bjarne Stroustrup

Father of C++ Programming Language.

Bjarne Stroustrup was born on 30 December 1950 in Aarhus, Denmark. He is Computer scientist who is most notable for the creation and development of the widely used C++ Programming Language. Currently Stroustrup is a managing director in the technology division of Morgan Stanley in New York City, a visiting professor at Columbia University, and a Distinguished Research Professor at Texas A&M University (where he taught for a decade). His research interests include design, programming techniques, distributed systems, performance, reliability, and maintainability.

Carl Sassenrath

Founder and CEO of Rebol Technologies.

Carl Sassenrath was born on 1957 in California. He is an architect of operating system and computer languages. In 1985, He brought multitasking to personal computer with the creation of the Amiga Computer Operating system kernel. Before that, computer was not able to perform more than one task. He is also the designer of REBOL computer language as well as the CEO of REBOL technologies.


REBOL is going to be revolutionary because it is very much like every day English and less like math or a computer language.

Charles Babbage

Father of the Computer.

Charles Babbage was born on 26 December 1791 in London. He was an English polymath. A mathematician, Philosopher, inventor and mechanical engineer. Babbage originated the concept of a digital programmable computer. Babbage is known as the Father of computer and is credited with inventing the first mechanical computer. On 18 October 1871, Babbage died at the age of 79.

Douglas Engelbart

Inventor of Computer Mouse.

Douglas Engelbart was born on 30 January 1925 in Portland, U.S. He was an American engineer and Inventor and an early computer and internet pioneer. He is best known for Inventing the computer Mouse. He also created the first two-dimensional editing system and was the first to demonstrate the use of Mixed text-graphics and shared-screen viewing. He was director of SRI International’s Argumentation Research Center in Palo Alto and founded Stanford University Bootstrap project. On July 2013, Engelbart Died at his home due to Kidney failure.

Dennis Ritchie

Father of C Programming Language.

Dennis MacAlistair Ritchie was born on 09 September 1941 in Bronxville, New York, U.S. He was an American Computer Scientist the creator of C Programming Language. Ritchie and The American Computer Scientist Kenneth L. Thompson were jointly for their development of generic Operating systems theory and specifically for the implementation of the UNIX Operating system which they developed together at Bell Laboratories. Ritchie was awarded the Turning Award in 1983 and Highest honor in computer science. In 2011 at the age of 70, Ritchie was found dead at his Home.

Evan Spiegel

Co-founder and Chief Executive officer of Snapchat.

Evan Thomas Spiegel was born on 04 June 1990 in Los Angeles, California, U.S. He is an American internet entrepreneur and the co-founder and CEO of the American multinational technology and social media company Snap, the Parent company of Snapchat. Spiegel developed the idea for the popular photo and video sharing app while attending Stanford university.

Chairman, president and CEO of IBM.

Virginia Marie also known as Ginni Rometty was born on 29 july 1957 in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. She is an American business executive, current chairman and Chief executive officer of International business machine corporation (IBM) and the first woman to head the company. In 1981, she joined IBM as a system engineer and became president and CEO in january 2012. She held the positions of senior vice president and group executive for sales, marketing and strategy at IBM.

Guido van Rossum

Father of Python Programming Language.

Guido Van Rossum was born on 31 January 1956 in Haarlem Netherlands. He is a Dutch programmer and best known as the author of the Python programming Language, one of the major programming languages on and off the web. In python community, Van Rossum is known as a “Benevolent Dictator for Life” (BDFL), which mean that he continues to oversee python development process and always making decision where necessary. From 2005 to 2012, He worked at Google where he spent his time to develop Python programming language. In 2013, He started work for Dropbox.


Now, it's my belief that Python is a lot easier than to teach to students programming and teach them C or C++ or Java at the same time because all the details of the languages are so much harder. Other scripting languages really don't work very well there either

James Arthur Gosling:

Father of Java Programming Language.

James Arthur gosling was born on 19 may 1955 in Calgary, Alberta Canada, is a Canadian computer scientist and best known as the founder and lead designer behind the Java Programming Language. James received a B.SC degree in computer science from the University of Calgary and Ph.D degree in computer science from Carnegie Mellon university and he built a multi-processor version of Unix while at Carnegie Mellon University as well as several compilers and mail systems.

Jeffrey Preston Bezos was born on 12 January 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is an American technology entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist who is the founder, chairman and CEO of Amazon.com, a virtual bookstore that became one of the world’s largest online shopping retailer. He is also the founder of Blue Origin, the Aerospace company that aims to make space travel affordable to ordinary people.

John Atanasoff

Inventor of first Electronic Digital Computer.

John Vincent Atanasoff was born on 04 October 1903 in Hamilton, New York, U.S. He was an American Bulgarian physicist and inventor of First electronic Digital Computer. In 1930s He invented the first electronic digital computer known as Atanasoff-Berry computer, at lowa state college. His computer was designed only to solve systems of Linear equations and was successfully tested in 1942. In 1995, after a lengthy illness, Atanasoff died.

John Backus

Inventor of Fortran.

John Warner Backus was born on 03 December 1924 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania . He was an American computer scientist and invertor of Fortran, the first widely used High-Level Programming Language and was also the inventor of the Backusnaur form (BNF), a widely used notation to define formal language syntax. In 1953, Backus developed the language Speedcoding, the first high-level language. On 17 March 2007, He died at his home at the age of 82.

Kathleen booth

Creator of First Assembly Language.

Kathleen booth was born in Stourbridge, Worcestershire, England. She wrote the first assembly language and designed the assembler and autocode for the first computer systems. She helped design three different machines including the ARC (Automatic Relay Computer), SEC(Simple Electronic Computer) and APE(x)C (All-purpose Electronic Computer).




Kenneth E. Iverson

Father of APL Programming Language.

Kenneth Eugene Iverson was born on 17 December 1920 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was a Canadian computer scientist who is best known for the development of APL programming language. He was honored with the Turning Award in 1979 for his pioneering effort in Programming languages and mathematical notation resulting in what the computing field now known as APL(A Programming Language). The language made efficient use of the slow communication speeds of the computer terminals of that time. On 16 October 2004, Iverson suffered a stroke while working on computer, and died on 19 October 2004 at the age of 83.

Father of B Programming Language and Designer of Unix OS

Kenneth Lane Thompson was born on 04 February 1943 in New Orleans, U.S. He is an American Pioneer of computer science. He designed and implemented the Original Unix operating system. He also Invented the B Programming Language, the direct predecessor to the C Programming language, and was one of the creators and early developers of the Plan 9 Operating system. He has worked in google where he co-invented the Go Programming Language.

Linus benedict Torvalds was born in 28 December 1969, is a American software engineer who is the creator of Linux kernel which became the kernel for operating systems such as the Linux Operating systems, Android, and chrome operating system. He also created the distributed revision control system Git and the diving logging and planning software subsurface.

Co-founder and CEO of Facebook.

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born on 14 May 1984 in White plains, New York. He is an American technology entrepreneur and philanthropist. He is the co-founder and chief executive officer of the Social-networking website Facebook that now has more than 1-billion monthly active users, and he is the youngest billionaire on this world. His worth is estimated to be $72.8 billion. Mark attended Harvard university where he launched Facebook on 04 February 2014 with his college roommates Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. Mark too, the company public in may 2012 with majority shares.

Pete Cashmore was born on 18 September 1985 in Banchory, Scotland. He is the CEO and Co-founder of the popular blog Mashable, the Leading source of News, Information and resources for the connected generation. Mashable is in the list of Technorati as one of the top blogs around the world. Pete was 19-year-old when he founded Mashable. Richard Matthew was born on 16 march 1953 in New York city, New York. He is an American free software movement activist and a programmer. He campaigns for software to be distributed in a manner such that its users receive the freedoms to use, study, distribute and modify that software. He is the founder of free software foundation FSF and He launched the GNU Project. He developed the GNU compiler collection, GNU Emacs and he wrote the GNU general public license.

Ray Tomlinson

Inventor of Email.

Raymond Samuel Tomlinson was born 23 April 1941 in Amsterdam, New York, US. He was a pioneering American computer programmer who implemented the first email program on the ARPANET system in 1970. Internationally, He is known as the Inventor of Email. He introduces the way to send mail between users on different hosts connected to ARPANET. Before that, mail could be sent only to those who used the same computer. He uses the @ sign to separate the user name from the name of their machine, and this scheme has been used in email addresses ever since. On march 2016, at the age of 74, He died at his home cause of heart attack.

Father of PHP Programming Language.

Rasmus Lerdorf was born on 22 November 1968 in Greenland, Denmark. He is a Canadian programmer who created the PHP scripting language, authoring the first two version of the language. According to Lerdorf, he first started working on PHP in 1994 as a personal home page tool in order to maintain his personal homepage and track the web-page traffic and now its is most widely use server side scripting language.

Steve Job was born in 1955 in San Francisco. He was an American businessman and inventor who played very important role in the success of Apple computers and the development of Latest technology such as iPod, iPad, MacBook. Steve is known as the Pioneer of the personal computer revolution with his fellow Steve wozniak. Steve is also known as the architect of Macintosh, the first mas-market personal computer that featured a graphical user interface built-in screen and mouse. Jobs earned only $1million as CEO of apple. But, share options from apple and Disney give him as estimated fortune of $8.3 billion. In 2003 Steve was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer. Over the next few years, jobs struggled with health issue and was often forced to delegate the running of Apple to Tim Cook. After a long battle, Steve Passed away in 2011.

Pichai Sundararajan also known as Sundar Pichai was born on 12 july 1972 in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. He is an Indian American business executive and chief executive officer of Google. He has been chosen as CEO of Google on 10th august 2015. He received his B. Tech degree from Indian institute of Technology Kharagpur and joined the biggest search engine company in the world, Google in 2004. He earned silver medal at the IIT Kharagpur university and he was awarded a scholarship to study at Stanford University in M.S. He remained in the United states thereafter.

Susan Diane Wojcicki was born on 05 July 1968 in Santa Clara County, California. She is an American technology executive and Chief executive officer of YouTube, The Video-sharing Website. Previously, she was the senior vice president in charge of marketing at YouTube’s parent company Google. She worked in the marketing division of intel and then became the first marketing manager of Google and her contributions helped her climb several rungs up the career ladder to become senior Vice president of Advertising and commerce. DoubleClick and YouTube are the largest acquisitions of Google and both were handled by her.

Founder of Bitcoin.

Satoshi Nakamoto is the name used by the unknown person or persons who developed bitcoin. As part of the implementation, they also devised the first blockchain database. In the process they were the first to solve the double-spending problem for digital currency using peer-to-peer network. Satoshi is may be from japan but No one knows about them and their identity. They started the bitcoin project in 2007 and were active in the development of bitcoin up until December 2010.

Tim Berners-Lee also known as TimBL is a computer scientist, was born on 8th june 1955 in Landon, England. TimBL is known as the inventor of the World Wide Web (WWW). He enable a system to be able to view web pages through the internet. He is also the director of World wide web consortium (W3c) which oversees standards for the Internet and World Wide Web. Currently TimBL is a professor of computer science at the university of Oxford.

Cook became the Chief executive officer of Apple on 24 August 2011, succeeding Steve Jobs in that role after the co-founder of Apple passed away on October 5th 2011. Previously, He served as the company’s chief operating officer under its founder Steve Jobs. Today apple is the most valuable company in the world and this all credit goes to Cook because apple would never have gotten where it is without cook’s help early on it job’s reign.

Co-Founder of Uber, Scour and Red Swoosh.

Travis Cordell Kalanick was born on 06 august 1976 in Los Angeles, California, U.S. He is an American Businessman and the co-founder of Scour (Peer to peer file sharing Application), Red Swoosh (Peer to Peer content delivery Network) and Uber (a transportation Network company). Kalanick was interested in computers from a young age and had learned to write computer code by the time he was in middle school. He studied computer engineering at the university of California but he dropped out to help in launching scour in 1998. Scour offered an internet search engine and file-sharing services. In 2001, he founded another File-sharing technology known as Red Swoosh. In 2009, He started Uber which was the first mobile app that allow you to get a car to pick you up and drop you at your desired destination.

Father of Internet.

Vinton Gray Cerf was born on 23 June 1943 in New heaven U.S. He is as American Internet Pioneer, who is recognized as one of the Father of the Internet. Cefr is the co-creator of the protocols which became TCP/IP, the standard for which is now called the Internet. In 2004, cerf won the A.M Turing Award, the highest honor in computer science, for their Pioneering work on internetworking, including the design and implementation of the internet’s basic communication protocols, TCP/IP, and for inspired leadership in networking.
